"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen,
slow to speak and slow to become angry..."
~ (James 1:19)
This wonderfully instructive verse came to mind after reading through the blog post (linked below) that Jessica forwarded earlier today. It comes from the Hands Free Mama blog and illustrates what happens when a parent keeps her anger in check and allows time for listening and observing instead of immediately reacting. It is a beautiful reminder of how grace can enter into our relationships with our kids when we exercise self-control over our emotions. Is it easy? NO! But if we are intentional and prayerful about developing a spirit of restraint, and if we practice, practice, practice, then we will begin to see the response instructed by James coming more easily and more naturally with time. Please read through this post and consider if the routine described by the author might be a useful tool for you: The 3-second Pause That Can Save a Morning & Spare Some Pain.
